1. Set a realistic goal
Instead of “I’ll be fluent in a year”, choose something measurable you can do every day, like “I’ll learn 10 words a day”. Small goals make it harder to give up.
2. Start with the most common words
You don’t need every word in a language; most everyday conversation uses the few thousand most common ones. Start with greetings, numbers, family, food and basic verbs.
3. Get pronunciation right from the start
Listen to every word and repeat it out loud. Fixing a pronunciation you learned wrong is much harder than learning it right the first time.
4. Learn words with set phrases
Phrases like “How much?”, “Where is…?” and “I would like…” let you say a lot with few words. Short dialogues show these phrases in their natural context.
5. Use spaced repetition
Review what you learned the next day, a few days later and a week later. A short test shows what you are starting to forget.
6. Listen a little every day
Songs, short videos, series and podcasts train your ear. You don’t need to understand everything at first; catching familiar words is already progress.
7. Don’t be afraid to speak
Mistakes are part of learning. Talking to yourself out loud, messaging someone learning the same language and speaking with native speakers whenever you can is the fastest way forward.
